The Zonnebloem (Sunflower) Schouwen-Duiveland branch wants to make a positive impact on the lives of people who have physical limitations due to illness and\/or advanced age, and who are, as a result, in danger of social isolation. It seeks to alleviate loneliness in particular through one-to-one contacts, but also through a variety of activities.<\/p>\n

The department has about 315 participants, called guests, and works with about 35 volunteers. All guests live on Schouwen-Duiveland, either independently or in a home, and are members of the Zonnebloem.<\/p>\n

Zeeland afternoons<\/h3>\n

One of this year’s activities are the Zeeland afternoons dedicated to Zeeland’s heritage, including the Zeeland dialect, especially as most of the guests were born and raised on the island. These afternoons took place on March 14 and 16 and the guests had a blast! They were treated to, among other things, a Zeeland lunch, Zeeland cabaret and a bingo with Zeeland prizes.<\/p>\n

Sunday of the Sick<\/h3>\n

Sunday of the Sick is an annual initiative of the Zonnebloem, in which volunteers from the department bring flowers or plants to sick residents of the island of Schouwen-Duiveland. Last year, due to the Corona measures still in force and the very vulnerable group of people, this could only take place on a very limited scale. To make up for this, the department wants to take a big approach this year and also bring flowers to the residents of nursing homes on the island. We are talking about around 1050 people.<\/p>\n
