Before the break, we see one woman: petite in stature, but quite headstrong – and that at a time when young women were supposed to be submissive: Betje Wolff, born in Vlissingen and who became famous as a writer.
\nIn a short theatre play, Annet Minderhout portrays this gritty young lady. <\/p>\n
The second, and biggest part of the evening consists of the story of two women: Mina and Madam. Mina Marinusse served with Marietje countess van Lynden-Calkoen, living first at Ter Hooge castle, later at Berkenbosch.
\nMaartje Duin, great-granddaughter of \u2018Madam\u2019, made a radio\/podcast series about the relationship between her great-grandmother and \u2018Mina\u2019 who worked for her for as much as half a century.

When Maartje discussed this situation within her family, invariably the response was, \u2018Mina and Madam? That was a loving friendship.\u2019 Can there be love, when there is such a huge disparity? <\/p>\n
During the weekend of 30 January to 2 February, Maartje will tell the story of her great-grandmother and her servant in various towns on Walcheren. Maartje is also curious to hear the public’s memories (or own experiences) regarding mistresses and servants.<\/p>\n
