On 15 March 2025, the 24th edition of the Scratch Messiah Zeeland took place in the Sint-Jacobskerk in Vlissingen. The day was festive and a great success, both musically and organisationally. During the day, while rehearsing G.F. Handel’s Messiah, there were approximately 245 participants, including 200 singers, 40 musicians, 4 soloists and 1 conductor, “maestro” Jules van Hessen.
Among the participants was a group of about 40 young singers from secondary schools. This was double the number compared to last year. The group sang two of the more difficult choruses from the oratorio. Thanks to their participation, there was a younger audience than usual at classical concerts in the evening. The Sint-Jacobskerk was very well attended in the evening, with approximately 240 visitors.
The organisers look back on a successful event that was greatly appreciated by both the many participants and the audience.
The Hurgronje Family Fund made a financial contribution to the realisation of this musical event.
