Vlissingen-based Valreep and Amsterdam-based Prospektor join forces just this once and present the surprising programme:
Three women and their extraordinary past
The seashell
Before the break, we see one woman: petite in stature, but quite headstrong – and that at a time when young women were supposed to be submissive: Betje Wolff, born in Vlissingen and who became famous as a writer.
In a short theatre play, Annet Minderhout portrays this gritty young lady.
A cup of tea with Maartje Duin
The second, and biggest part of the evening consists of the story of two women: Mina and Madam. Mina Marinusse served with Marietje countess van Lynden-Calkoen, living first at Ter Hooge castle, later at Berkenbosch.
Maartje Duin, great-granddaughter of ‘Madam’, made a radio/podcast series about the relationship between her great-grandmother and ‘Mina’ who worked for her for as much as half a century.
Fif-teen years? Unbelievable!
When Maartje discussed this situation within her family, invariably the response was, ‘Mina and Madam? That was a loving friendship.’ Can there be love, when there is such a huge disparity?
During the weekend of 30 January to 2 February, Maartje will tell the story of her great-grandmother and her servant in various towns on Walcheren. Maartje is also curious to hear the public’s memories (or own experiences) regarding mistresses and servants.
Entrance € 10.00 including a drink and booking fee
It is possible to follow a cycling or walking route along Mina and Madam’s locations. For more information: www.valreep.com
The podcast series ‘Mina and Madam’ was made possible in part by a financial contribution from the Hurgronje Family Fund.
