The Library of Zeeland is restoring “prijsbanden” (Covers decorating a book that was given to a student as a price for academic success) thanks to a contribution from the Hurgronje Family Fund

Thanks to a contribution from the Hurgronje Family Fund, the Library of Zeeland has been able to restore a large number of “prijsbanden”. The restored prijsbanden can be seen until January 23, 2020 in the basement of the Library of Zeeland in Middelburg.

The Dutch video “Bekroonde Wijsheid” explains what a prijsband is, it’s history, and what it takes to restore such an old book. The video takes 15:18 minutes and is well worth watching (only in Dutch).
