Renovation service building Protestant Church Heinkenszand

5 June 2023

On January 9, 2021, the Family Assembly decided to make funds available for the renovation of the service building of the Protestant congregation at the Dorpskerk in Heinkenszand.

Isaac Hurgronje, artisan lord of Heinkenszand, left a Legate to provide wedding gifts from it to brides within the Reformed Congregation of Heinkenszand (now Protestant Congregation of Heinkenszand). Because of this special connection with the village, the Administrators felt that a contribution to this renovation was appropriate, and family members confirmed this at the meeting.

After a long period of preparation, the contractor started work at the beginning of March 2023. A design was ready, which had been approved by the Borsele municipality, but due to sharply increased construction costs, this design was no longer feasible. For this reason, the design had to be revised to make it financially viable again. However, this meant reapplying for the building permit – which again required the necessary time – and selecting a contractor, which was also a time-consuming procedure. Eventually, the municipal permit was received and a building contract was signed with a construction company to realise the rebuilding plans.

So at this point, progress is finally actually visible. As many villagers have volunteered to assist the construction team and the interior committee, the necessary money can be reduced. The municipality has also finally granted permission to install solar panels on the roof of the service building, which will also save on electricity costs in the future. The contractor is scheduled to finish around September 1, 2023, i.e. the structure will be ready by then. After that, of course, there is still a lot to be done to finish the building, such as painting, fitting the kitchen, installing the plumbing and much more. To be continued!
